The Company and Product

Westfield Technology Group are 100% British owned, the Westfield POD is a pure electric, autonomous transport mode with a complete electronic architecture. Due to innovative engineering methods and robust components, the POD can run at night, in the rain and in most reasonable environmental conditions.  The Westfield POD utilises a Lithium battery; a GRP body-frame; and, type approved seating. The POD can take 4 people plus luggage. Wheelchair accessibility comes in the form of ramps that can be attached to the side, with the wheelchair fitting easily into the POD.

Position Details

Position: Trial Co-Ordinator & Safety Steward
Location: Brockhole in the Lake District
Department: Projects
Reporting to: Projects Department
Salary: £19,000 – £21,000 per annum
Contract: 10 months fixed term
Hours: 40 per week, working days Wednesday to Sunday

Job Description

Main Objectives

  • To offer an autonomous transport service for passengers
  • Monitor the safety of the vehicle
  • Able to assess any incidents, whilst the vehicle is in manual and autonomous mode
  • Ensure the Security & Safety of the POD
  • Able to deal with emergencies

Summary of Duties

  • Provide excellent Customer Service
  • Produce clear, concise and honest reports on daily activities
  • Ensuing the vehicle is secured and charged every night
  • Recognise vehicle faults and logging them
  • Ensuring all paperwork is completed and up to date, including any safety or legal requirements
  • Familiarise yourself with and be able to review risk assessments for the daily processes
  • Have full responsibility for people and operations throughout the process
  • Ensure you are familiar with the routes, evacuation routes & assembly point
  • Ensure you are fully compliant with the emergency response procedures
  • Be able to work through operational issues, with the responsibility to stop the trial if required
  • Alternatively sit in the POD or walk with the POD to ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians

Person Specification

You will need:

  • To be enthusiastic, polite and courteous
  • Experience of working within a small team
  • Excellent Customer Service and communication skills
  • A valid driving licence allowing you to drive in the UK
  • To be calm and efficient and be able to work under pressure
  • To be of smart appearance and comfortable around members of the public
  • To be able to adapt to different and changing situations
  • The confidence to stop the process immediately if safety is compromised


  • Previous experience of working in a similar role
  • Any mechanical or technical knowledge would be an advantage, however full training will be given
  • First Aid experience
